Farrell, Raymond Thomas

 

Born 23rd June 1886 Hobart Tasmania the son of Clement Augustus and Emily Augusta Farrell (nee Large) a plumber he embarked Melbourne 28th February 1918 on board “HMAT Nestor” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

He was killed in action 18th September 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, Jeancourt, Hindenburg Outpost Line Area, France. 

His brother Sergeant Roy Henry Farrell (No 1256) died from wounds 20th August 1916 in France and was buried in the St Sever Cemetery, Rouen, Seine Maritime, France. 

Mr. and Mrs. O. Farrell of Rayville, Lunawanna, have been officially informed that their son, Lance-Corporal Raymond Thomas Farrell was killed in action "somewhere in France" on September l8. He enlisted from Lunawanna in October, 1917, and left Tasmania on February 21 last. He is the second of Mr. and Mrs. Farrell's sons to render the supreme sacrifice, Sergeant Roy H. Farrell having died of wounds on August 20, 1916. Of the 58 volunteers from Bruny Island, Lance Corporal Farrell is the twenty-first to lay down his life for the Empire and liberty's cause.
