FARRELL, ROY HENRY
Studio portrait of 1256 Private (Pte) Roy Henry Farrell, 1st Reinforcements, 26th Battalion, of Lunawanna South, Burnie Island, Tas. A labourer prior to enlisting on 17 May 1915, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Aeneas on 29 June 1915. Pte Farrell served on the Gallipoli Peninsula and afterwards in France, where he died of wounds at Rouen, France, on 20 August 1916, aged 22 years.
Our Lunawanna correspondent writes : -Sergeant Roy H. Farrell, son of Mr and Mrs. C. Farrell of Lunawanna has been reported killed. He enlisted early last year and left Tasmania in May, 1915, being n member of the 26tb Battalion. He served for some time in the Gallipoli campaign and afterwards in France where ho died of gunshot wounds received in battle in the General Hospital Rouen about August 31, at the ago of 22. His sterling qualities had endeared him to all whose privilege it was to have known him The Mercury 8th September 1916
