Finch, Cyril Ralph
Born 6th October 1898 Hobart Tasmania to William and Charlotte Finch (nee Bliss) he embarked Adelaide 1st April 1915 on board “HMAT Port Lincoln” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 19th August 1916 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was just 17 years of age. News has been received from the Military authorities by Mrs W Finch of 27 Letitia Street, North Hobart that her son Cyril Ralph had been killed in action in France, between the 19th and 22nd August. The deceased soldier, who left here in April 1915 took part in several engagements at Gallipoli and was one of the Tasmanian soldiers selected to take part in the midnight raids on the German trenches in France some few months ago, and for the good work they performed on that occasion were accorded a month’s special furlough in England. He had not long returned to his duties in France when he met his fate. His brother William is still at the front, being a driver in the Divisional Ammunition Column. The Mercury 30th September 1916
