Fitzgerald, Frederick Ernest

 

Born Gore Hill New South Wales, married to Ellen Rose Geltner and living at Scottsdale Tasmania when he enlisted, a miner he embarked Melbourne 19th February 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 18th September 1918 and is commemorated in the Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

On Tuesday afternoon, the rector (Rev C. W. Wilson) had to convey the sad sews to Mrs. Fitzgerald (Scottsdale), that her husband, Frederick Ernest Fitzgerald, had fallen in action in France on the 18th September. The deceased soldier had seen about three years active service in the 12th Battalion without receiving a wound. He was married to a daughter of Mrs. Geltner, and leaves a widow and two young children to mourn their loss
