Fleming, Edward Richard
Born 23rd April 1896 Mersey Tasmania to Edward Richard and Sarah Brooks Fleming (nee Crick) a labourer who departed Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 25th April 1915 at Gallipoli and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey
In accordance with the finding of the court of enquiry, it has now been officially reported that Private E. R. Fleming of the 12th Battalion was killed in action on April 25, 1915 the day of the historic landing at Gallipoli. The young Tasmanian soldier, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Fleming, of "Lawwood," Launceston, was 19 years of age two days before his death and prior to enlistment was employed in mining at Waratah.
