Ford, Lawrence Wilbraham

 

 

Born 1889 Burnie Tasmania the son of Frederick Forrester and Charlotte Rosetta Catherine Ford (nee Gibson) a dairy farmer he embarked Melbourne 8th February 1916 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

He was appointed Lance Corporal 26th July 1916 and to Sergeant on the 10th April 1917.   

He was killed in action 15th April 1917 at Lagnicourt and is commemorated in the Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy, Pas de Calais, France 

The sad news reached Smithton on Monday night that Sergeant Lawrence W Ford was killed in action in France.  Deceased was educated at the Grammar School, Launceston and followed farming pursuits at Marrawah prior to enlisting.  He was a brave fearless man and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.  He was the youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr F F Ford of Marrawah and brother to Mr A W Ford Smithton
