Fraser, Henry Victor Roy
Born Kingston Tasmania the son of James Marchant and Annie Fraser, a railway fitter with the Mt Lyell Mining Company, he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He had served with the Australian Volunteers as a sergeant and on the 16th October 1914 he was promoted to the same rank. He was killed in action 2nd May 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. The news of the death of Sergeant Roy Fraser son of Mr and Mrs J M Fraser of this town has been received on all hands with deep sorrow and much sympathy has been expressed for those who personally mourn his loss. The young soldier had been reared and educated at Queenstown and had taken a keen interest in all matters tending to arouse a spirit of discipline and duty amongst those with whom; he worked and associated. He was an efficient member of the original senior cadet company at Queenstown which Colonel Parnell then district commandant of Tasmania described as being firmly developed and well trained a body of lads as he had ever seen. He went out with the 12th Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Brigade in the 1st Australian Division and was killed in action during the operations on the Gallipoli Peninsula Weekly Courier 24th June 1915
