French, George Richard
Born 22nd July 1893 Mersey Tasmania to Charles William and Ellen Mabel French (nee Rayner) a farmer from Sister’s Creek he embarked Melbourne 27th September 1915 on board “HMAT Hororata” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 22nd July 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. News has been received of the death of Pte G.R. French youngest of the four soldier sons of Mr. and Mrs French of Sisters Creek; The deceased left Tasmania with the 12th Battalion but transferred to the A.M.C. in Egypt. He was previously reported missing Hedley Gillard, one of his mates, reports that between 22nd and 25th July a party of 10 A.M.O. was shelled, six of them were killed outright including the doctor.
