Galloway, John (Jack)

 

Born 11 Nov 1881 in Kirremuir, Forfar, Scotland the son of John and Mary Edward Galloway (nee Barry) he was a journalist in Scotland came to Tasmania aged 32 with his brother and lived at Piper’s River where he worked as an orchardist.  He embarked Melbourne 23rd September 1916 on board “HMAT Seang Choon” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.

 

He died 17th January 1917 at the Parkhouse Hospital Salisbury England from cardiac failure – his father claimed his body and had him buried at Aberdeen (Springbank) Cemetery, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom.

 

ANOTHER NEPHEW SIR J M BARRIE KILLED
The death is announced in a military hospital Salisbury of Corporal Jack Galloway, elder son of John Galloway, retired inspector schools, formerly Dumfries and now resident in Aberdeen. Corporal Galloway, who had been engaged in fruit farming in Tasmania along with his younger brother, came to this country with the Tasmanian Contingent. He was 34 years of age, was a nephew of Sir James M Barrie, the novelist.
