Gardiner, Hubert William

 

Born 25th September 1892 Emu Bay to Henry and Charlotte Mary Gardner (nee Heazlewood) a farmer who departed Hobart 8th August 1916 on “HMAT Ballarat” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 His was killed in action 6th April 1917 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France

Official notification has been received of the death of Pte. H. W Gardner, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Gardner, of Mt. Hicks, who was killed in action in France between 6th and 10th April. Deceased enlisted about 12 months ago and prior to enlisting assisted his parents on the farm. He was well known and respected in the district. Mr. and Mrs. Gardner have received many messages of condolence and desire to gratefully acknowledge these expressions of sympathy.
