Gatenby, Lawrence Frank

Born 1889 Campbell Town Tasmania the son of Robert Corney and Harriette Mary Gatenby (nee Stewart) a clerk he embarked Hobart  20^th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3^rd Light Horse Regiment.  On the 27^th August 1915 he was invalided back to Australia with enteric fever.

He re-enlisted and embarked 1^st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40^th Infantry Battalion and the rank of sergeant.

He died 14^th January 1917 at the 2^nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station Armentieres France from gunshot wounds to the right eye, neck, right side and right loin.  He was buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, Nord, France
