Gatenby, Lawrence Frank
Born 1889 Campbell Town Tasmania the son of Robert Corney and Harriette Mary Gatenby (nee Stewart) a clerk he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment. On the 27th August 1915 he was invalided back to Australia with enteric fever.
He re-enlisted and embarked 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion and the rank of sergeant.
He died 14th January 1917 at the 2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station Armentieres France from gunshot wounds to the right eye, neck, right side and right loin. He was buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, Nord, France
