Gellie, Mervyn
Born 1894 Hobart Tasmania the son of Charles Mervyn Harold and Helen Frances Gellie (nee Westwood) a labourer he embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion where he proceeded to the Gallipoli Peninsula. His brother Harold enlisted at the same time. He became ill on the Peninsula and was admitted the 7th Field Ambulance with dysentery and was later transferred to the hospital ship “Soudan” for Malta. After recovery he rejoined his unit in France where he was killed in action 5th August 1916 at Moquet Farm France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
