Gilbert, George Raymond

 

Born 25th March 1893 Richmond Tasmania to George and Selina Gilbert (nee Miller) a labourer who departed Melbourne 22nd December 1914 on board “HMAT Ceramic” with the 15th Infantry Battalion.

 

Sgt Gilbert was admitted to the 2nd Australian Field Ambulance with bullet wounds to the chest and arms.  These were received accidentally and a court of enquiry 22nd February 1917 found no soldier was to blame.  He died from his injuries 21st February 1917.

 He was buried Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, France.
