Gilbert, Roy Erwin
Born Cambridge Tasmania to Edward and Selina Gilbert of “Craigon” Cambridge, an engine driver he departed Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He arrived in France on the 19th January 1917 and not even two weeks later was killed in action 31st January 1917 in France and is commemorated in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France. His brother Sgt George Raymond Gilbert (No 1383) died 21st February 1917 in France of accidental injuries and was buried in the Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, France.
