Gilbert, Roy Erwin

Born Cambridge Tasmania to Edward and Selina Gilbert of “Craigon” Cambridge, an engine driver he departed Hobart 1^st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40^th Infantry Battalion.

He arrived in France on the 19^th January 1917 and not even two weeks later was killed in action 31^st January 1917 in France and is commemorated in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.

His brother Sgt George Raymond Gilbert (No 1383) died 21^st February 1917 in France of accidental injuries and was buried in the Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt, France.
