Goss, Allan
Studio portrait of 628 Private (Pte) Allan Goss, 40th Infantry Battalion. A labourer from Cressy, Tasmania, prior to enlisting, Pte Goss embarked from Hobart on 1 July 1916 aboard HMAT Berrima A35. He was wounded in action in Belgium on 6 October 1917 and died of his wounds two days later. Mr James Goss of Cressy has received a letter of condolence from Lieutenant W K Grubb upon the death of his son Private A Goss. Lieutenant Grubb says “Your son, who was a member of my platoon was a runner and was working with another runner Private C F Hamilton of Evandale when both were shot. Your son was taken to the dressing station and later to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A runner’s work is particularly important and dangerous. It is work upon which much depends. Your son was admired by all in his platoon and did splendid work in action on October 4th when he received his death wound. The Weekly Courier 14th February 1918
