HALL, CLIFFORD

P02139.001

1915. Portrait of 6514 Private Clifford Hall, 3rd Australian Field Ambulance. A Tasmanian, Hall enlisted 2 September 1915, and was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 21 October 1917 when the hospital unit for which he was working was accidentally bombarded. Before enlisting, Hall was the President of the United Labourers' Union and consistently condemned the war.

Labourites will regret to learn that Cliff Hall, well known in Union circles in Hobart, was killed in action on October 21st.  He enlisted for service over 2 years ago and was attached to the army service corps and had been kept busy in the fighting lines ever since.  He was an ardent propagandist for Labour among the boys at the front during the conscription campaign and also the general elections.  Great sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents and brothers and sisters who are respected citizens of Hobart.
