POPULAR CYGNET SOLDIER KILLED Yesterday Mrs Robt Harvey of Cygnet, received the sad news that her son Private John B Harvey had been killed in action in France on the 29th September. The deceased soldier left Tasmania as a member of the 40th Battalion and has seen a great deal of heavy fighting; especially during the last few months, but he appeared to be one of the fortunate ones in missing the casualty lists. He was of a very bright and cheerful disposition and had a host of friends in his native district- He was a grandson of Mr Osborne Geeves who happened to be on a visit to 'Garthfield’ at the time the sad news was received. Private Harvey's father, Councillor Robt Harvey is still in America inquiring into the fruit and vegetable drying industry and is not expected home till about the end of next month.
