Hawkins William

 

A blacksmith from Devonport West who listed his brother B. V. Hawkins of Devonport as his next of kin he embarked Melbourne 10th May 1915 on board “HMAT Euripides” with the 23rd Infantry Battalion and the rank of Sergeant.

He held the rank of Company Sergeant Major when he was killed in action 9th October 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on theMenin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium
