Hawkins, Leonard
Born Hobart Tasmania the son of Harry Hawkins an orchardist he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was killed in action 25th April 1915 on the Galipoli Peninsula and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey Private Leonard Hawkins (reported missing) is the eldest son of Mr. H Hawkins, stock and sharebroker of Hobart, and is in his 21st year. He was educated at Friends High School and at the outbreak of war was engaged as an orchardist at Oakwood, Tasman Peninsula. Responding to the Empire's call for volunteers, he sold his orchard, joined the camp at Brighton, and was enrolled as a signaller in "A" Company, 12th Battalion, and sailed with the first expeditionary force to Egypt afterwards taking part in the landing on the Gallipolli Peninsula Examiner Launceston 24th June 1915
