Henry, William Livingstone

Born 1891 Blairgowrie, Perthshire, Scotland the son of Charles and Christina Fitch Henry (nee Livingstone) a shop assistant living in Deloraine Tasmania he enlisted Claremont Tasmania and embarked Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. 

Company Sergeant Major Henry was killed in action 3rd October 1918 in France and like others with no known grave is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France. 

Belgian Croix de Guerre

For conspicuous bravery.  During an attack on Brookseinde Ridge on 4th October 1917 this NCO organised a party on his own initiative and attacked and demolished two enemy strong points which were holding up the advance.  He led the rush with great bravery.

Date of recommendation 30th December 1917 

Military Medal

During the attack of East Mont St Quenton near Peronne on 2nd September this man was No 2 of a Lewis gun team.  He, with a comrade, pushed on ahead of his platoon in short rushes, firing the gun from the hip and cleared the machine gun nests which were holding his platoon up thus enabling it to get on to its objective.

Date of recommendation 11th September 1918
