Herbert Alfred
Studio portrait of 3981 Private (Pte) Alfred Herbert, 12th Reinforcements, 14th Battalion, born Tasmania but living in North Richmond, Vic. Pte Herbert enlisted on 17 July 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic on 23 November 1915. He was killed in action on 8 August 1918 in France whilst serving with the 46th Battalion. His brother, 4084 Pte David James Herbert, 12th Battalion, was also killed in action on 23 July 1916 at Pozieres, France.
