Born 1890 Sheffield Tasmania the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Hetherington (nee Skeggs) and married to Jessie Moody, a farmer he embarked Hobart 8th August 1916 on board “HMAT Ballarat” with the 40th Infantry Battalion.

He died 14th June 1917 from wounds received in the field and was buried in the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension (Nord), France.

General regret was felt and expressed at Claude Road when the news came through that Private Victor Hetherington had been killed in France. A young wife and two young children were left to mourn their loss. The sad news was conveyed to Mrs Hetherington by the Rev. Best of Sheffield. Out of over 30 who have enlisted from Claude Road this makes the first casualty.
