Hill Thomas Charles Whitfield
Born March 1884 Bothwell Tasmania the son of Richard Charles and Mary Ann Hill (nee Cuthbertson) he embarked Melbourne 19th October 1914 on board “HMAT Hororata” with the 6th Infantry Battalion.
He was killed in action 16th July 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli Peninsula, Canakkale Province, Turkey
Mentioned in despatches Conspicuous courage and coolness in working his gun when under heavy shellfire and thus rendering valuable aid in the attack on trench. The gun was hit by the enemy fire. This N.C.O was killed shortly after this performance when working outside the parapet of the trench.
