Hinchmore, Richard

 

Private Richard Hinchmore

 

Born 1884 Port Sorell the son of William and Louisa Hinchmore (nee Frazer) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 10th September 1915 on board SS Makarini with the 12th Infantry Battalion

 

He was killed in action 19th August 1916 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France

His brother Corporal Albert Hinchmore enlisted in New Zealand and was killed in action 1st August 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Messines Ridge (New Zealand) Memorial, Messines, West-Vlaanderen, Flanders, Belgium

HINCHMORE. — In loving memory of Gunner Richard, killed in action, 19th to 22nd August, 1916; also, Corporal Albert Hinchmore, killed in action, 1st August, 1917.

Victory must be with the Allies— To all those words sound nice; But, oh, the sad, sad hearts of those whose loved ones paid the price ! — Inserted by Arthur and Will, on active service. (brothers)
