Hodgman Alan Gunn

 

 

Born 29th June 1897 Brighton Tasmania to Thomas Christopher and Robina Frances Hodgman (nee Gunn) an engineer he departed Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

 

Educated at Friends School he was only 18 when he enlisted and was well known among the followers of football.  He was a member of the Derwent Rowing Club and was selected for interstate Rowing.

 Cpl Hodgman was killed in action 7th June 1917 at Messines and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
