Holland, Sidney George

 

Born 11th November 1892 Launceston Tasmania to Edward James and Annie Holland (nee Davis) a tinsmith who departed Melbourne 26th November 1917 with the 4th Machine Gun Company.

 He was killed in action 28th July 1918 and is commemorated in the Crucifix Corner Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, France.

His brother Pte Alfred Edgar Holland (No 4044) was also killed in action 19th October 1917.

The sad news was conveyed to Mr. E. J. Holland St. John Street yesterday morning by Monsignor Beelinor that his son (Pte Sydney George ("Jim") of the machine-gun section, had been killed in action on July 28. Deceased leaves a widow and one child. His brother Alf paid the supreme sacrifice about 10 months ago. Prior to enlisting he was employed at Mr. Goodwin's, Brisbane Street.
