Studio portrait of 2849 Private (Pte) Walter Hollaway, 26th Battalion, of Police Point, Tas. A farm labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Hollaway embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Ulysses on 27 October 1915, later transferring to the 12th Battalion. On 23 July 1916 he was killed in action at Pozieres, France, aged 22. He has no known grave and is commemorated at the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
