Studio portrait of 1872 Lance Corporal Arthur Stanley Hoodless, 9th Battalion, of Railton, Tas, who died on 25 February 1917 of wounds received near Albert on the Somme, aged 23 years.

FOR KING AND COUNTRY.

The sad news was received on Tuesday evening by Mr. and Mrs. J. Hoodless that their son, Signaller Arthur Hoodless had been killed in action in France. When the word came quite a gloom was cast over the town, as the young man was well known and well liked by all who know him. Signaller Hoodless was one of the first of our lads to come forward and offer his services for the good of the Empire and for the protection of his native land and those he holds dear. Except when laid up in hospital, this brave lad has been on constant active service. Sincere sympathy is felt by all for Mr. and Mrs. Hoodless and family in their sorrow. One other son is still at the front.
