Born 19th June 1895 Tasman, Tasmania to James Somervill and Avilda Emilie Hope (nee Neilsen) a carpenter he embarked Melbourne 2nd February 1915 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He died 3rd April 1915 in Egypt of meningitis and was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
