Born 19^th June 1895 Tasman, Tasmania to James Somervill and Avilda Emilie Hope (nee Neilsen) a carpenter he embarked Melbourne 2^nd February 1915 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray with the 12^th Infantry Battalion.

He died 3^rd April 1915 in Egypt of meningitis and was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
