How, Donald Reginald
Born 23rd November 1896 Ulverstone Tasmania the son of Robert Henry and Jane Louisa How (nee Williams) a farmer he embarked Hobart 1st July 1915 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He was serving with the 49th Battalion when he was admitted to the 56th Casualty Clearing Station with a gunshot wound to the right thigh and then transferred to the 18th USA Hospital where he died 24th April 1918 from his injuries. He was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, Etaples France. On Tuesday night the Rev. A. V.Ballard of Burnie had the duty of informing Mr. and Mrs. R. How of Mooreville road that their son, Pte. D. R. How, of the 49th (late 40th Battalion, had died of wounds received in France. Pte How was the youngest of three brothers who enlisted and left Tasmania about two years ago.
