Hunter, James Harold
Born 31st August 1894 Carrick Tasmania the son of Edward and Ellen Hunter (nee McLeod) a labourer he embarked Sydney 20th January 1916 on board “HMAT Runic” with the 8th Field Company Engineers. He died 18th April 1918 from wounds received in the field and was buried in the St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, Seine Maritime, France. His brother William Robert Hunter (No 1645) died 6th May 1917 in France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, Villers-Bretonneux Area, France. Canon Wilmer of Carrick conveyed the sad intelligence to Mrs. Edward Hunter of the death of her son, Sapper James Harold Hunter, through gunshot wounds in chest and arms on April 1st at the lst Australian General Hospital. He was the second son to make the supreme sacrifice. The Examiner 29th April 1918
