Hutton, Walter

 

Born Melbourne but living with his family and working as an orcharist when he enlisted and posted to the 12th Infantry Battalion.

Mr W Hutton Brown’s River road ha« received the following letter from Lieut M Newton

 Dear Mr Hutton, -It is with much regret that I have to inform you of the death of your son, Private Walter Hutton No 7035 He was killed, with six other Australian lads who were members of a post on the front line and were all killed by the one shell on November 3, 1918.  You will be relieved to know, am sure, that death was instantaneous He was buried with the others, just near where he was killed, about 8OO to 1,000 vards east of Zonnebeke, and about 5 miles north east of Ypres A small cross was erected for identification purposes Will you please accept the deepest sympathy from all officers and men of the 12th Battalion in your great loss-Yours faithfully, Lieut M Newton, 2nd Adj
