Jacques, Victor Arthur
Born 1894 Glenorchy Tasmania the son of Samuel William and Susannah Jacques (nee Gordon) an orchardist he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion and the rank of Sergeant. He was admitted to the 2nd Casualty Clearing Station suffering from multiple shell wounds and died 31st July 1918 and was buried in the Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, Longuenesse, Pas de Calais, France. Mr. S Jacques, Chapel-street, Glenorchy has been notified of the death at the front of his son, Warrant-officer V. A Jacques. Some time ago he received from Base Records an official notification that his son had been mentioned in despatches for distinguished and gallant services rendered during the period of General Sir Charles Munro's command of the Mediterranean Expcditionary Force The Mercury 11th September 1918
