If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

Jenkins, Robert James

Born Chacewater Cornwell England a labourer of 260 Brisbane Street Launceston, he embarked Melbourne 10th November 1915 on board “HMAT Ascanius” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He died 7th January 1917 in France and was buried in the Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension.

Sincere regret was expressed when the news was received of the death of Robert Jenkins who died from wounds received in France on January 7th. “Bob” was a favourite with everyone and his beautiful voice gave pleasure to all who were privileged to hear it.  He was a cornishman and had been in the district about two years.  He enlisted in August 1915 and was attached to the 12th Battalion.  So we add another hero to our roll of honour and know that eternal rest is granted to one who was a ‘soldier’ and a ‘man’.
