Jessup, William Walter
Born 16th April 1884 Ringarooma Tasmania to Walter and Jane Jessup (nee Harris) a carpenter who departed Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion. He died of wounds received in Belgium and was buried in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. Mr. A. G. Jessup, of Devonport, received word on Saturday that his brother Private W. W. Jessup, of the 40th Battalion, had been killed in action on October 23 in France. The deceased, who was wounded in the thigh, leg and arm probably died from exhaustion. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jessup of Scottsdale and leaves a widow and one child. Private Jessup was one of the first of the 40th Battalion to make the supreme sacrifice for the Empire.
