Johnson George Albert
Born 27 June 1895 Tunbridge Tasmania to George Henry and Mary Ellen Johnson (nee Thomas). A labourer prior to enlistment in the 15th Infantry Battalion, he embarked from Melbourne on 22 December 1914 on board "HMAT Ceramic A40".
Pte Johnson was wounded on the Gallipoli Peninsula on the 18th May 1915 and was moved to the ship “HMT Galeka” where a leg was amputated. After the amputation he developed gangrene and died on 24th May 1915. He was later buried at sea. He is commemorated in the East Mudros Military Cemetery, Greece.
