Johnson, Alfred Robert
Born 1892 Wynyard Tasmania the son of Alexander James and Mary Johnson (nee Walters) a labourer he embarked Hobart 20th October 1914 on board “HMAT Geelong” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.
He served Gallipoli and on 5th February 1916 he was appointed Lance Corporal and promoted to Corporal on the 25th March 1916. On the 26th May 1916 he was again promoted to Lance Sergeant and on 26th August 1916 to Sergeant.
He was killed in action 4th September 1916 at Moquet Farm France (previously reported missing) and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux Mr. E. A. Johnson, Flowerdale, has been officially notified that his brother, Sergt. A. R. Johnson, has been reported missing from 4th September, Sergt Johnson was one of the first to enlist from the Flowerdale district. He went through the Gallipoli campaign, and after a time in Egypt went to France, from there he is now reported as missing. His many friends are hoping for the best, and that he will be reported as amongst the living. The North Western Advocate and the Emu Bay Times 11th October 1916
