Jones, Albert Edward
Born 28th October 1891 Longford Tasmania to Henry Alfred and Dora Jones (nee Burk) a farm labourer who departed Melbourne 8th February 1916 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He was awarded the Military Medal 26th May 1917 “When Lieutenant Harrison’s platoon was held up by the enemy on the northern road at Boursies on the night of 9/10th April 1917 Pte Jones rushed out with lewis gun under heavy fire and took up a position 150 yards in front of the engaged enemy machine guns and quitened them considerably thus enabling Lieutenant Harrison to take up his position with his platoon.” Lance Corporal Jones was killed in action 5th May 1917 at Bullecourt France and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France
