Informal portrait of 5736 Private (Pte), (later Lance Corporal) Robert Kiddle, 12th Battalion (later 40th Battalion), of Launceston, Tas. Pte Kiddle was a labourer before enlisting on 21 March 1916. He embarked from Hobart on HMAT Seang Choon on 8 May 1916, with the 18th Reinforcements. He was transferred to the 40th Battalion on 23 September 1916. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 6 July 1917, and wounded on 4 October 1917. He rejoined his unit on 6 November 1917 and was killed in action in France on 28 March 1918, at the age of 34
