Lakin, Frederick Henry
He was born 24th February 1891 Launceston Tasmania Robert George and Emily Lakin (nee Standage) a clerk who embarked Melbourne 22nd December 1917 with the 7th Field Artillery Brigade. He was killed in action 23rd October 1918 Le Cateau, Nord, Nord-Pas-de Calais, France and buried in the St. Souplet British Cemetery France. The news reached Launceston on Monday evening of the death in action on October 23 of Gunner Fred Lakin third son of Mr and Mrs George Lakin of High Street. The deceased soldier, a fine type of Australian in physique and character was employed in the office of the Tasmanian Permanent Executors and Trustees Association prior to enlistment and served with the field artillery. He was one of Launceston’s most capable lacrosse players and an extremely popular fellow. A wife (daughter of Major J H Room) and young child remain. The Weekly Courier 14th November 1918
