Lane, Bernard Valentine
Born April 1893 Meadowbank Rye New South Wales the son of Benjamin James and Marion Fanny Lane (nee Barsham) a farmer living at Lindisfarne Tasmania when he enlisted he departed Melbourne 25th October 1916 on board “HMAT Ulysses” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died 17th May 1917 from wounds received in the field at Bullecourt and was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, France. His brother Lieutenant Frederick William Lane was killed in action at Dernacourt 28th March 1918 and is commemorated in the Ribemont Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France. LANE. -Died of wounds in France on May 17, Private Bernard Valentine Lane, seventh son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Lane, The Turning, Lindisfarne, aged 23 years.
