Lane, Newton Frederick
Born 15th April 1879 Albrighton Shropshire England the son of Cecil Newton and Amelia Mary Lane (nee Bertie) and married to Vera Macgreth, a pastoralist who had arrived in Tasmania aged 24 and who had served in South Africa with the Imperial Yeomanry. He embarked Newcastle 21st December 1914 on board “HMAT Boonah” with the 3rd Light Horse Regiment.
He was serving with the 50th Battalion when he was killed in action 8th June 1917 in Belgium and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium
