He was the son of William Last of Boat Harbor, a miner who embarked Adelaide 1^st April 1915 on board “HMAT Port Lincoln” with the 12^th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 7^th August 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula and is commemorated in the Shell Green Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey.
