Latta Charles Harold
Born 2nd July 1891 Launceston Tasmania the son of George Joseph and Helen Josephine Latta (nee Smith) a metallurgist he embarked Melbourne 29th December 1915 on board “HMAT Demosthenes” with the 7th Infantry Battalion and the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Lt Latta was serving with the 58th Battalion when he died 23rd July 1916 at the 30th General Hospital Calais France from a fractured femur and was buried in the Calais Southern Cemetery, Calais, Pas de Calais, France News was received in Launceston yesterday of the death from wounds of Lieutenant C. H. Latta eldest son of the late Mr. G. J. Latta of this city. Lieut. Latta passed away in the 13th General Hospital Calais France on July 23. He was 25 years of age. He was educated at the Launceston Church Grammar School and the Geelong College. He qualified in metallurgy and assaying at Sydney University in 1912, and was for some time employed as assayer at the Mount Bischoff mine. He enlisted in Victoria about 12 months ago.
