Lawson, Herbert

 

 

 

 

 

Born Murchason Tasmania the son of A Lawson of McNamara Street Queenstown a baker he embarked Melbourne 5th January 1916 on board “HMAT Afric” with the 6th Field Artillery Brigade. 

He was killed in action 18th September 1918 in France and is commemorated in the Jeancourt Communal Cemetery Extension

QUEENSTOWN - KILLED IN ACTION.

Mr A. Lawson, Warden of Queenstown Municipality, has been informed that his only son, Driver Herbert Lawson, was killed in action in France on September 17. Driver Lawson enlisted at Gormanston on August 15, 1916 and was previously employed by his father. He was about 20 years of age, and was a student at the Mount Lyell School of Mines and Industries. In the last letter written from England to his parents on August 9, he stated that he was recovering from a gas attack and was expecting to go back to the front.
