Lee, Roy Stuart

 

Born 13th October 1896 Kempton Tasmania the son of Adolphus William and Eliza Ann Lee (nee Cooper) a carpenter and naval cadet he embarked Melbourne 2nd February 1915 on board “HMAT Clan McGillivray” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

Corporal Lee was killed in action 15th April 1917 in France and is commemorated in the Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy, Pas de Calais, France

Mr A. W. Lee of Summer Hill Road, West Hobart, has been notified that his third son, Corporal R. S. Lee was killed in action in France on April 15. Corporal Lee who was 20 years of age was called up for service with the local naval forces in August, 1914. Ho enlisted for service abroad two months later and took part in the landing at Gallipoli, and on the evacuation of the Peninsula he was sent to France. Corporal Lee was a member of the Mercantile Rowing Club and of the Hobart Cyclist Club, and held the ten mile cycling record.
