Leonard Arthur George
Born 2nd November 1897 The Oaks Tasmania the son of Charles and Elsie Ruth Leonard (nee Wadley) a labourer he embarked Melbourne 24th August 1916 on board “HMAT Botanist” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. He died 3rd May 1918 at the 15th Casualty Clearing Station France from gunshot wounds to the right arm, hip and foot and was buried in the Ebblinghem Military Cemetery, Ebblinghem, Nord Pas de Calais, France. The sad news was conveyed to Mr Charles Leonard of Bracknell and late of The Oaks that his son Arthur had died of wounds on May 3rd. Private Leonard was liked and highly esteemed. He was wounded some time ago; was in hospital in England and recently returned to his unit. His twin brother William Is on active service in France and has been mentioned in a despatch for bravery. Brother brothers were in the 12th Battalion. It is to be hoped that William will be spared to return home. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents. The Weekly Courier 30th May 1918
