Lewis, Frederic William
Born 11th January 1878 London England the son of Thomas Stoodley and Caroline Ann Lewis (nee Lee) he arrived in Australia at the age of 19 years and was married to Mabel Louisa Ricketts. He embarked Hobart 1st July 1916 on board “HMAT Berrima” with the 40th Infantry Battalion and the rank of Sergeant.
Sgt Lewis died 31st January 1917 in France from wounds received in the field and is commemorated in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, Nord Pas de Calais, France
Lewis – Died of wounds January 31, 1917 at Second Australian Clearing Station France, Company Sergeant Major Frederick William Lewis dearly beloved husband of Mabel Louise Lewis leaving a wife and five young children to mourn their sad loss. Aged 39 years. Late of Police Force and Tramways. He gave his life for King and Country and those he loved.
