Lindus, Leonard Tasker Born 3rd April 1887 Launceston Tasmania to Richard and Elizabeth Lindus (nee Crabtree) an accountancy clerk who had served with the Civilian Forces Launceston he departed Brisbane 29th June 1915 on board “HMAT Aeneas” with the 26th Infantry Battalion. Lieutenant Lindus was killed in action 29th July 1916 and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. News was received on Saturday that Lieutenant L T Lindus of the 26th Battalion had been killed in action in France. Deceased, who was 29 years of age, was a son of Mr R Lindus of 9 Reservation Street. He left for the front in May 1915 and served five months at Gallipoli where he was second in command of his Company. After the evacuation he went to France, his brigade being the first Australian brigade to go into action in France. The late Lieutenant Lindus was a member of Patterson Street Church and was in charge of the primary department of the Margaret Street Sunday School till he left for the front.
