If you could spare a few dollars to help with the running costs of hosting this website to keep it alive would be very much appreciated.

Thankyou from Gravesites of Tasmania in advance.

Linton, William Welsh

Born 1878 Nook Tasmania the son of William Henry and Hannah Linton (nee Bott)a farm labourer who embarked Melbourne 27th September 1915 on board “HMAT Hororata” with the 12th Infantry Battalion.

He was killed in action 31st March 1917 at Lagnicourt and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

His brother Thomas Linton (No 444) also died 31st March 1917 from wounds received at Lagnicourt and was buried in the Aveluy Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

It is also with the deepest regret we have to record the loss of another son of Mrs Linton (Forester) Pte. W. W. Linton who was killed in action on 31st March, the same day as his brother Tom. The information was conveyed to the family by Rev Brooks, of Branxholm and the keenest sympathy will be felt for them in their double bereavement. Another brother is still at the front and a fourth one is returning wounded. The late Pte W. W. Linton was the eldest son and his age 36 years. We sincerely hope the deep sympathy expressed on all sides will be some slight solace to the bereaved ones.
